Run As Adminstrator In Windows 10

Simply, how, please? I have tried right clicking on the program under Start, 'more', 'run as administrator', then making the change I want/need to, but when I start the save routine, I'm told in Notepad 'Access is denied'. I have also done this as advised, 'Click Open file location from within the More menu. Right click on the program and select Properties. Click Advanced within the Shortcut tab which is the default one.' again with no success. Any advice please?

Should perhaps say that the Advanced box within the shortcut tab brings up a box 'Run as admin' which I ticked, then 'ok', 'apply', 'ok'.

What are you saving in Notepad?

The program is called 'video-2-PC'. Some of the recording onto the laptop keeps stopping with the message that the original is copyright protected. It's not, of course, because it,s my home videos. Evidently this is a known problem, because you are told in the instructions where to get the fix from, and how to install it. The fix address is 'http://goo.gl/tXX0ic', and ir requires you to add just one line to the notebook, which is 'ProtectOn=0'.
The instructions show how to go into 'Programs, Windows Accessories, Notepad, Run as Administrator' but this is not the Win10 format. Perhaps you could guide me through that?

It's just a text file you are adding to ?

I don't know what the issue is but if I were you I'd ensure that video-2-PC was not running to ensure the file isn't 'locked'. Apart from that it may be that you don't have rights to change things in that directory. Try saving the file elsewhere and copying it to the right place after.

You might have to log in on an administrator account when using windows ?

in control panel go to user accounts and set your details to administrator then log in with that id

Murraymints - it says I am the only user and I am the local account administrator already!

Try right clicking on Notepad, selecting run as administrator then from within Notepad make the change, then try saving the file as a different name.

If that works, got back to Windows, find the original file - rename it, then rename the file you saved from Notepad to the name that it should be.

Tuvok - looks like your solution worked. I opened notebook, copied the file into it, went back to the original file and renamed it, made the changes in notebook, copied that file back to its original location, under its original name. The parts of the VHSs which were being shown as copyright protected have now been recorded seemlessly (touch wood!). As with most things, a fairly simple solution, but one which needed a few heads to make! Thanks folks for your input.
