...in his fish pie....

Lovely meal tonight....restaurant overlooking the sea.....tables fairly close together...cosy but not cramped....and quiet music....bliss!
A couple came to sit at the next table.....elderly and obviously a new couple.....very English.....accents...dress....first holiday together I think...

He started to talk to her about the election......opinionated but quietly so...until she tried to venture her thoughts.....
He slammed both palms on the table...and still speaking fairly quietly but gruffly and measured now, told her to....Shut Up!...I am speaking!.....Please do not interrupt me until I have finished speaking! Listen to what I am saying!

Crikey!....Made me jump.....poor lady went rigid and red.....she said very little for the rest of the meal.....behaved very well I thought.....

I joke about dunking him in his pie.....but in truth I would have stood up and calmly left.....You?.....x

nice to hear that mr may is standing his ground with the prime minister
lol ^^
Errrrr....wrong hread, perhaps, ael ?
Or...thread, even !
lol..ael thinks it may have been The Mays dining out !
not if they were the couple in the restaurant :-)
Hoi, you cheating on me xxx, If I was sat in you seat I would have told that Idiot what I'd thought of his manner, no-one has the right to talk to someone like that the ilock.xx
Question Author
Ael...you made me laugh!...They weren't unlike the Mays ten or so years on either.....

This wasn't a situation where any one of us should have done anything really.....he was so quiet in his nastiness that only those almost next to him would have heard...and the girls at the table the other side were laughing and chatting....I doubt they noticed...
His companion came across as someone who would hate public fuss so any interference would have made it worse for her....
It would be nice though to think she put him in his place in private......

Hi, TWR...not cheating....but I do have to eat and you've been remiss with the mushy peas of late...... ;-)...x
Those sort are the worst ....all quiet and venomous and she wouldn't dare make a fuss, people would think she was the one at fault !
Question Author
Exactly, Seek......and of course if Talbot was there he'd be proved right....and that would never do..... ;-)

If they're a long time couple maybe she knows what happens if he's thwarted and prefers to keep the peace by smiling and giving in rather than having a public show....
That's what I would do......before dosing his bedtime cocoa with laxatives.......x
I think I misread this and answered as to what I would do If I were the poor lady concerned. Beginning to think that the question was about what I would do in gness's place. Answer is that there isn't much you can do.

Have I said something amiss? No-one has replied to me for ages. :(
Noooo you haven't said anything amiss, jourdain.
Question Author
Not at all, J....I maybe didn't word it well.....but I did mean what would you do in the position of that lady.....

In her position I would have calmly left....maybe excuse myself to go to the ladies and leave him waiting....

In my position last night I did what was right I think and ignore.....to have interfered would have embarrassed the lady and it wasn't my place.....but oh......I could have slapped his pompous face!....x
Every time i think of your post, gness, I really hope this is a very new 'friendship' and the lady can get out while she can .....can't bear to think of her stuck in this toxic type of relationship :(

Me, I'd be running for the hills, first op !
Question Author
Do you know, Seek....it's bothered me....silly I know as it really has nothing to do with me....

He was such a jerk and she seemed so pleasant and considerate in her attitude towards him that I hope she isn't landed with him for good....if she is he doesn't deserve her.....

This is a tiny, tiny place and they will have been staying near....I was hoping to see them today just to take more notice.......and maybe suggest she runs for the hills............ :-)

Perhaps if we meet up in one of the restaurants again.....fairly likely here...I'll engage him in conversation then interrupt him......just to see what happens......x
If I were the lady in question I'd have said "You're being an a--hole again, carry on if you like but I'm not listening."
Life could get very interesting in this small country town if gness meets the two from the restaurant .....he might well rue the day he was so rude !

Seriously I can't believe anyone would stick around if that type of behaviour was a regular thing ....worries me too, gness xx
Question Author
With a cut glass accent that'd be brilliant, Clover...x

Well, Seek....I have five more days here.....and with luck we will meet.....I hope so and I'll let you know....x
