My aunt used to recite this poem thing about all the dogs going to a do and having to hang their bottoms up on coat pegs, one of them shouts fire and they all rush out grabbing the first one to hand- thus explaining why dogs always sniff each other cos they're looking for their own one.
Can any one help out with thefull version?

"The Dogs Party"

The dogs they had a party
They came from near and far
And some dogs came by aeroplane
And some by motor car
They went into the lobby
And signed the visitors book
And each one hung his a*seh0le
Upon a separate hook
One dog was not invited
And this aroused his ire
He rushed into the meeting place
And loudly shouted, Fire!
Now the dogs were so excited
They had no time to look
And each one took an a*seh0le
From off the nearest hook
It is a sad sad story
For it is very sore
To wear anothers a*seh0le
Youve never worn before
And that is why when dogs meet
By land or sea or foam
Each sniffs the others a*seh0le
In hope it is its own

Or alternately

The Dogs Party

The dogs all had a party They came from near and far. Some dogs came by taxi And others came by car.

Each dog signed his name upon a special book And each dog hung his backside upon a special hook.

One dog was not invited, And this aroused his ire. He stormed into the party And loudly shouted "FIRE!"

And in the chaos that followed, The dogs forgot to look And grabbed just any backside From off of any hook.

So that is the real reason. whenever they meet or roam, They sniff each others' backside, To try and find their own!

I think the version you choose can be tailores to the company you are keeping!

Thanks so much for that, just one of many she used to entertain us with as kids, will be nice to be able to pass on
My mum always told me that one, but I never knew there was a poem. Thanks.
My very dear grandfather used to recite that to me when I was a little girl, in his rich deep yorkshire accent. I am a grandma myself now, but oh the memories you have invoked deemartin. Thank you.
