Is A 9.5 Kw Hob Suitable For Domestic Use?

I have just bought a commercial cooker for use at home. The specs say it has a hob which uses 9.5kw. Is this suitable for domestic use and will I have to get a new cable run. I currently have an electric cooker.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.This will be a 14.9 Kw commercial cooker it will need a 3 phase 400 volt 40 amp supply . This supply has to be separate from the normal house supply, it is as much as an entire house just for the cooker.

A 3 phase supply will need a specialist electrician to instal , it will be EXPENSIVE ! probably a lot more than the cooker cost!

^ 40 amps is if it runs off a 240v supply , a cooker this big needs 400 volts . Remember the law , volts x amps = watts
So 400 volts x 40 amps = 16,000 watts or 16 Kw . This beast is
19.4 Kw if everything is on at the same time so even 40 amps at 400 volts will not be enough! You need 45 amps at 400volts to be safe!
