Does anybody have froglets yet?

I saw on Springwatch (which is based in Devon and possibly had an earlier or warmer spring than the rest of the country) that they have froglets already Most of my tadpoles are still quite small. A few are bigger but no signs of any legs coming yet. What about the rest of you?

"Mine" seem to be developing rather slowly but look healthy enough. They have gone through their vegeterian phase and are now in the carnivorous stage. No sign of legs yet.

Hi Wendy - our hundreds of little taddies haven't got any legs yet either, but my sister emailed me yesterday to say their ones have!

Strange really, 'cos they're all from the same place - my sister brought our ones over from her pond in Essex, whilst we live in South Beds!

In anticipation of lots of 'frogs legs' in the near future!

Hi wendy - I thought that too - watching Springwatch - but worry not - they are there - just that they are so small and well camoflaged - sit by the pond - nice and still - may have to wait a bit - but you'll see them.

Mine have been turning into froglets over the last two weeks. Amazing really, as we have no pond but I rescued the spawn from the hand-hold of a manhole cover. I have been nuturing it in a washing up bowl ever since. It has been fascinating watching them grow and now we have lots of froglets in the garden to join the nine or so adult frogs. How they ever got into the garden is a mystery as it is a courtyard surrounded by 6 foot high brick walls. There now seems to be a couple of tadpoles left with no sign of legs, 4 with back legs only, five with four legs and tails and one ready for the off, They get out via a Heath Robinson affair, of bricks and a flower pot on its side in the bowl.

Well done Statler for rescuing them and for your attempts to rear them so successfully. Fascinating to watch them grow, isn't it? Mine are still quite behind in their growth. I suspect there were too many and they've all been competing for food, even with the boiled lettuce and goldfish flakes I've been feeding them. The only consolation is that with the hot weather the lawn hasn't been growing fast, so will need less mowing. Therefore the risk of churning up the migrating froglets in the mower blades will be reduced. Less food for the magpies too!
