Nokia phone problem

I have just given my sister my old (brand new) Nokia 6630. She has only had it a couple of weeks but is now saying that the screen is whiting out, and all the buttons have stopped working- ie- if you press "contacts" the phone flickers to contacts for a second but then goes straight back to the main menu.
Anyone had this happen before? since it is out of warranty, what would this cost to fix it??!

oh, and to answer your question, if it is water damage it cannot be fixed.
