I have a Kawasaki KLE 500 1994, Had it 6 years now.
I only do about 1500 miles a year, just use it for fun rides and the odd trip, so it is sitting around for long periods.
All I need to do is keep the battery topped up with an Optimate charger if I leave it for a longer period.
I do ride it or start it up at least once a month, If you want to start it once a month make sure you run it until the engine cooling fan starts up or it reaches full temprature. It is best to go on a ride once a month to free up all the controls and brakes.
It will do more damage than good if you do not get the engine up to full temprature!
Doing the above i have had no problems with mine over 6 years, still origonal 6 years old battery.
