I need a quick, simple pudding recipe and someone suggested strawberries with a chocolate dip. Sounds yummy, but I'm not sure what do do with the chocolate. Do you melt it and serve the chocolate hot for people to dip themselves, or do you pre-dip the strawbs and serve them chilled? Any help much appreciated.
Have you thought of Banoffi Pie? Nestles do a tin of caremalised condensed milk. All you need is to get a pastry shell - you could even use a meringe nest if you wanted to because you won't be doing any baking. Slice a banana into the shell and just top it with the caramel from the tin and then you can serve it with some squirty cream. What could be simpler than that? It could be done within five minutes of returning from the supermarket with the goods
..get some good quality dark chocolate, melt it, add a splash of cream, and a splash of brandy or cointrau etc (this will stop the choc from setting again) ...
...make up some mini fruit kebabs using cocktail sticks, strawberries, chunks of fresh pineapple, marshmallows , slices of peach, etc....
...serve on a large tray or plate where everyone can help themselves...
Both ways are lovely. I particularly like the chilled chocolate coated strawberries - it is usual to only coat half of the strawberry.
If you are going to serve hot dipping chocolate I suggest you use saucers, one for each person. Pour the chocolate in to the well of the saucer and arrange the strawberries around it. Or use little dishes like ramekins for the chocolate.
This is much more hygenic and convenient than having a communal dip.
i melted some galaxy - i hate dark choc - and dipped the biggest reddest strawbs i could find. I washed them but left the green (handle as my daughter calls it) bit on.
I did these in the morning and stored in the fridge on baking paper
Then I just opened a packet of meringue nests and gave one per person filled with whipped cream amd offered the fruit for everyone to dip in their own cream and then eat the meringeue.
very easy, quick, sweet and delish!
Chocloate fountain B & W are selling a small one. This heats the chocolate and it cascades down. I went to a wedding and they had a large chocolate fountain we dipped in strawberries, grapes marshmellows and jellies babies
yeah if you are doing set chocolate just half coat them and leave them to set, melted chocolate, splashing out on a mini chocolate fountain may be an idea.
One other recipe I saw is to pile up some strawberries and rasberries, melt some white chocolate, add cream and a splash of orange liqeuer and drizzle it over the fruit. you could do this on one big platter with cocktail sticks so people can help themselves to the fruit, or on individual plates.
Tried "Eton Mess"? Crumble up some meringues, chop strawerries in half, whizz up some double cream. Mix ingredients together and serve in small dessert dishes. Or you can mix the strawberries and the cream and pop into the meringue nests. Delish ... !
