Why do so many African countries have "rebels" and what are they rebelling against?

The governments are not thought to be doing enough for the people and are sometimes believed to be corrupt.
Hence the rebels.
It is of course far more complicated than that - Africa is made up of many different countries, each with different 'tribes' of peoples and the histories are long.
