So there is this town where:
1) Loads of immigrants don't support the English football team (and in fact hope they lose)
2) The crime rate is very high
3) I can barely understand them
4) Only 63% of the adult population are employed
5) Almost 40% of the population between 16 and 74 had NO qualifications.
6) Almost 70% of the population of the town are either immigrants or children of immigrants
Name that town

There are a lot of people who will have seen my 'question' and thought the town would be somewhere like Bradford and that the immigrants referred to were Asian.
There are a lot of posts about the BNP, about how people living in this country should support the national team, how the knife culture is all down to blacks, how 'they' don't speak the language, etc etc.
I was trying to point out that it is ridiculous to think of any type of person as a group - be they Scottish, Pakistani, English, British, Jamaican etc.
I was trying to make people who think that asylum seekers and immigrants are scum (and there are a lot of them on AB) think about the wider picture. A lot of these people will defend their views by providing statistics backing up their point.
I was trying to make the point that you can make statistics do what you want and back up pretty much any argument.
Just to make it absolutely 100% clear - I have nothing against the Scottish - when I can understand them ;-)

i think everywhere in the u.k is just as bad as the other, putting it down to statistics is a waste of time and a false reading... a lovely quiet village, to a bustling town, from john o groats to lands end there is violence, murder, thefts, peadophiles, unemployment, racism, deprived people, rich people, educated people, in the smallest to the largest of towns these people are everywhere....
corby may i add from as outsider to the town is a lovely place, pleasant and generous people live within it, its fresh and green and a sigh of relief from the place where i was born and bred... a supposedly nice middleclass area on the outskirts of london (becuase statistics say it is!!??)...i dont think so, i recently went on line to read back in the local newsapapers about whats been happening in my old town which "statistically" is better than corby !!! what a joke, the amount of murders in that area just since january alone outweighs corby 12 to 1 (but strangely enough none of these murders i saw on the national news) mmm???
so for these people that are unemplyed, not very intelligent, have a scottish accent etc etc i would rather be living amongst them and put up with the petty crime (which is everywhere) than amongst murderers and peadophiles!!
