Thrombosis?

MIL went to pharmacist today complaining of a sore leg (apparently been sore since Friday) - he refused to treat her and sent to the Dr's who said she had a suspected thrombosis in her leg and sent her for a scan tomorrow.
I was wondering is thrombosis not dangerous - isn't it a blood clot? Why wait 24 hours?

Hmmm....may very, Islay but when the same happened to MrG the surgery phoned me at work to take him to the hospital now......and they investigated immediately with a doppler ultrasound......x

I know I sound wicked but she is very much an attention seeker, I'm wondering if the GP is just sending her to shut her up - he pretty much gives her antibiotics to get rid of her (well at least that is the only reason I can see a GP giving her course upon course of antibiotics for a cold).

Could be, I suppose........I doubt he'd wait if he thought it was serious.....he must think it's unlikely the clot will move or cause damage quickly......anyway....I waffle....

Two situations:
A venous thrombosis in the leg.......very dangerous.
An Arterial thrombosis in the leg.....not quite as dangerous, but still dangerous.
Which is it?
Not enough information, but if either are suspected, then she should have been sent to A&E as an emergency.

Mmmmm what annoys me is she phoned Mr Islay even though we are several hundred miles away and unable to do anything so now he is panicking.

I had a suspected one not too long ago. GP sent me straight to A&E with a letter GP measured both my legs with a tape measure and one was quite a bit larger than the other which was a big prompt.

I was given a letter to give to A&E and told I had to go straight there. Was triaged and had bloods done at A&E then was sent to a quieter little ward where I waited for the blood result (D-Dimer I believe). The nurse there said if the blood test was positive I'd be given an appointment for a scan the next day. Could she have had a blood test done?

My blood test was thankfully negative so no idea about the scan part.

Actually, thinking on, I think a Heparin injecton was mentioned had the blood test been positive. I got the results of the bloods back pretty quickly, no more than a couple of hours, via A&E though.

Ok was not told to go to A&E but just to go for a scan! Oh well we will have to wait till tomorrow !

Eve.....broadly speaking ..D-dimmer is used for a VENOUS thrombosis.
A scan is used to detect an arterial thrombosis.
Yours was clearly a venous problem and Islay.s MIL is a suspected arterial problem.

Update on the thrombosis it was a insect bite!!!!!

'no' as I didn't think I had been bitten'
I wouldn't mind but my mother died of blood clots so obviously a very stressful time!!!
