I have painted my bannisters white and they look lovely apart from the newel posts.
I have to keep retouching them as the paint wears away (from being touched). Any way I can prevent this happening? TIA

Something else you could try, Craps. After the re-painting has dried thoroughly, apply clear lacquer (gloss or satin.) Junckers "Strong" or similar. It's a floor lacquer. Made to stand years of walking all over it.

What paint are you using?
Dulux diamond eggshell
I'd use the equivalent oil based eggshell. It's much harder wearing than water based paint.
