Why has my screen gone dim?

My laptop screen is usually quite bright but within the last 30 minutes it has gone dim. I'm plugged into the mains supply (well.. the lappy is) and I think there is something busy going on updating or something, but it hasn't usually affected the brightness before. Anyone got any ideas?

Strange that it's only just happened but if you click the battery icon in the bottom right corner and click 'More power options' you should be able to access the brightness settings through there. That's how it's done on mine anyway; maybe different for different laptops?

Yes agree with Sopie. If I click on the battery icon bottom right, I have option to adjust screen brightness. If you have too maybe you clicked it by mistake earlier on?

Thank you for that peeps. I've cleaned my specs, both lens and followed your advice sophie. My battery level is only 60% don't know why as I'm usually plugged in to the mains I turned the battery from HP recommended to high power and it is back to normal. I'll read through you link Buenchico. Thanks

Further to last night's dim viewing. I have found the fault, it would appear that I have a bad connection. Not sure weather its the lead from the cable that goes into my laptop or the laptop connection itself, but it is not always connecting and charging the battery. Hence the loss of light. I will have to buy another one to find out. Thanks for your suggestions though. x

Be careful with those connectors Gran!
They have a habit of failing, breaking off, etc .. due to knocks .. or mis-handling.
