Allah And Mohammed

Don't think Allah has much to do with this question tbh, but here goes.

If the followers of Allah get their knickers in a twist over depictions of Mohammed, why are so many men called Mohammed?

Is it to venerate him or just a case of selective followings of 'teachings'?

Religions are selective in their bits of their religious books imo.

That doesn’t apply throughout the Islamic world. In North Africa, for example, you’ll often find items decorated with pictures of people and animals, and portrayals of Mohammed by Muslim artists do exist.

The ban on art of that nature, along with the disapproval of music and dancing, emanating from the stricter versions of Islam, seems to be a more recent thing.

Boys are often named Mohammed in reverence to the Prophet.

I think it shows a remarkable lack of imagination when choosing names for baby boys.

It was similar here in South Wales years ago, when every class in school had at least 3 David Jones !

mikey; After all, David was Wales' patron saint, and if you surname is Jones, as most Welsh people seem to be, well there's not a lot you can do about that :0)
We know who Mohammed was, but was the first Jones I wonder?

Phil and Gary Neville's dad was called Neville Neville.
I don't know if that was in reverence to the prophet Neville though.

I always thought that to name a child with such a common Christian name was just daft. Surely the whole point of names is that we can distinguish ourselves easily from others ?
