Thanks Sam1960, I came to that conclusion but, that would seem to give Sheet/These as the Mentathlon. Never before had 2 possible answers. so, still stumped

Rescued my paper from the bin .....

In the words game I make the letters 1 = B, 2 = A, 3 = R, 4 = G, 5 = E.
And for Muddlesome I get " Good Vibrations"

Playing with the letters I've got could the answer be "Sheet" Lightning
