yes there is an effect if you are on a means tested benefit ( I think IS is) and no if it is not means tested - and carers allowance and PIP arent.

Yes - IS is means tested, as are HB, IRESA & Council Tax Support etc. Inheritance must be reported for all these. Don't be beguiled by the link PP gives. Putting the inheritance into trust could be costly & maybe ineffective unless the deceased's Will created the trust.
