hiya! i want to put some smallish pots out the front of my house. i want some plants to put in them but don't know what to get. something that is fairly tough and easy 2 look after as i tend to kill them! we r south facing. nothing 2 expensive. any suggestions? thanx xXx and also possibly a hanging basket. any ideas what 2 put in that? xXx
I don't know much about plants, but if you have an Aldis supermarket near you they are selling hanging baskets for about 4.00 each. good luck, if mrs sparx comes in early i'll ask her, she works in a nursery, take care, Ray xx
Hi posy,
i'm back, mrs sparx has just come in and says for something really easy and colourful, put in nasturtiums, she said even I could grow them so they must be easy, and she said they are also cheap and colourful and will also trail over the edge of the pots, Take care, Ray XX
For your pots, I would recomend Mesembryanthemum ( Livingstone daisy) I prefere mixed colours, they open out in the sun and have a breath taking iriddecent sheen to them that looks unreal. I've had them flowering nonstop now for at least 6 weeks! Water them in well at first and them just occaisionally to keep them moist.
For hanging baskets, at this time of year I'd go for pre planted petunias or trailing fuchsias, Rays nasturtiums are good too, I grow them from seed every year, soooo easy! Good Luck. T bird+
As Tbird+ says mems have such gorgeous colours, unusual leaves (look like their coated), and easy to grow, as are the geraniums that G'girlmentioned (they don't 'mind' if you forget to water them!).

Not forgetting sparky, with his nasturtiums cascading over the pots, they are also delicious added to salads as they have a light mustard taste!!
