clue: jungle dwelling character such as tarzan,
doesn't say how many letters, i can only think of apeman, is there any other words?
also,
old fashioned decorative skirting, can only think of dado, again doesn't say how many letters,
any help greatly appreciated.

could possibly be, it's one of those crosswords that doesn't give any letters & you have to fill in black squares as you go along! so am trying to get as many words as poss to get started, thanks for your help :-)

That would be frieze - not freize...

I think you'll find that the frieze is the upper wall, normally between the cornice and the picture rail. The skirting is on the lower wall at the floor.
I would suggest that your dado is a better answer than frieze.
