Not a question, but all too often the scientific community assumes a lofty stance which discourages, ignores, and excludes the opinions of others so good for NASA for taking the time to respond to his letter. A nice little story.

if he does do well at university etc he'll be able to go back to NASA with that letter and demand a job!
