A couple of years ago the local council got taken to task about some apostrophes on street signs. There answer was to remove apostrophes from all the street signs.

We have a "Carters Rise" near us one one sign and "Carter's Rise" on another.

Across the road the street sign is Walkers Drive.

However, in the wee town, around the square, there's one which is Houston Square and the other sign is Houstoun Square.
Not an apostrophe in sight, I know, but to spell the name of the town centre square wrongly is appalling.

The name's Dickens, not Jones (or even Dicken, which presumably someone thought it was)
Highly embarrassing and absolutely correct to change. If they can send the bill to the person who perpetrated the foul-up in the first place so much the better

I think punctuation always counts. It is what makes sense of what we write.

One would hope most would notice. May well ensure they don't make such a mess of it in future. But perhaps an unskilled worker with a bottle of Tippex and a felt pen might've cost less.
