Had it been a white family returning from Nigeria and someone made a jibe about the fear of them bringing over the ebola virus with them, would there be a reason for complaint?

AOG plays the race card more than any contributor on AB.
He does it about three or four times a week.
AOG - this isn't a criticism, just an observation.
Regarding this young woman - she should either make a contemporaneous complaint, or not at all.
And if you're going to accept a damages payment, you can't then subsequently complain - it damages your position.

With regard to the 'humour jibe' comment - yes, to some this would be a humorous jibe, but others would take offence.
For instance, there are some really nasty thing that people say about the elderly that would upset you, but for others would be really funny. I think we should be aware of how others feel.
It's not 1972 any more.
For instance - back then we could make jokes about laying linoleum in the back of our Ford Granadas when transporting grandma from the bingo, or keeping an eye on our kids when grandad was over - but that's simply offensive now.

To clarify - I don't mean that you personally should feel offence, but can you imagine if you were in a situation where people assumed you were either incontinent or...worse.
Put yourself in that position.
You've started a new job, and your boss laughingly says, "Hang on - AOG is here...etc etc".
You'd have to have skin thicker than Katie Hopkins not to take offence
And thinking about it - all someone has to do is call you 'Old Git' and you get upset, so...

But to be honest, I agree with the thrust of your argument.
I honestly don't think this was the best way to deal with someone who offends you.
Don't complain.
Just tell them why you don't like what they've said, and explain why.
It's quicker, and when you see their behaviour change, it's very rewarding.
...alternatively, you could always slap them upside their stupid head. But I wouldn't advocate that.
