Hilton hotel

I'm going to a wedding reception which is being held a a local Hilton hotel in August, but as I don't get out much, was shocked to find that a b&b there was �155 for one night! Is this normal as there aren't any local (cheaper) hotels around. Any ideas or am I a cheapskate?:(

without knowing where your hilton is, it's difficult to say whether �155 is normal; but if, as you say, there's no competition, it probably is normal for that location.

Why can't the bride / bridegroom negotiate with the hotel for a special room rate for wedding guests staying over? Have you tried asking them?

Most hotel chains have a published rate but almost NOBODY pays it.

Try phoning Hilton and asking for a special rate and see what they say.

Also look for Hilton breaks where you can often book 2 nights for less than that.

I have often stayed at Hiltons for 2 day breaks where I have paid about 60 pounds each for me and my wife, which also include 1 nights dinner.

Where is this reception?
I cant believe that there are no other hotels within short distance. British hotels are ridiculously expensive but as long as you get a bed who cares how good the hotel is? Book in to a travel lodge for 50 quid and get a taxi (which probably isnt gonna cost �105 is it so you are going save money some how?). You also say its a 'local' hotel so why not just come home and sleep in your own bed for free!
you are not a cheapskate - just sensible. Most hotel rooms are filled by expense account buisness people and they dont have to pay the bill.

I've stood at reception in quite a few hotels to check in and saw their standard room rate and nearly choked, they are nearly always about double what you pay if you book in advance.
Try the Hilton website, try their special offers or leisure deals, you might even find that you can get something else thrown in for that price ot get the booking a lot cheaper.
Or as garybaldy has said, try looking for a hotel or a B&B a short walk from the wedding. B&B's are always more friendly than big chain hotels anyway!
I always think it's really unthoughtful (?) of a couple not to try and arrange special deals for their guests when they are having a wedding where people have to stay over night. So just casually ask the bride or groom if they've arranged anything.
Hope you can get something a bit cheaper, as it does sound expensive!

thanks everyone for your advice, I'll ask the bride/groom first just incase something has been pre-arranged that we don't know about. Just got to get an outfit now.....:)
