what are the rules for shipping my american car on vacation to the uk?

i would have thought it will be quite expensive,god knows what sort of paperwork would be involved,compared to say hiring a mustang over here for your time here.as for the rules,not too sure,our import rules can be quite tiresome for something like that.

I have shipped several cars from NJ to Liverpool and Long Beach to Bristol. The cost from NJ to Liverpool should be around $850 (Roll on Roll Off) and about $1300 from CA. I would guess that you would have to double that for a two way trip. You then have to convince HM Customs that you are only visiting and not importing the car. I think you would have to show that your car was currently licenced and you had insurance cover for the U.K. It may be less expensive to buy a used car over her for your vacation and sell it when you leave. If you buy a car here check out insurance first as you may have difficulty as a visitor with no British address. I know that when I have bought cars in the U.S. it is almost impossible to get insurance as a tourist.
