Sorry Kick, Scottish People, but why do they?, I support any British Team if England aren't in the Equation, when Scotland did well at the Commonwealth games I was really pleased for them, Then whoever England are against The People of W ales and Scotland wany England to lose, I find it very sad, and to top it off they then start attacking people for wearing an England kit, Come on Kick, are they normal ????

Ray, I think you're confusing a thug who wanted to beat someone up with an ordinary decent Scot. You know it's unacceptable to tar us all with that brush (just as you are not a nation of BNP supporting football holligans, am I right?), and everyone up here condimened that mans actions in hitting a child. But, a scottish paper put three men in England shirts in three major scottish cities for an afternoon and do you know what reaction they got? None at all. I rest my case. It's all hype and hyperbole.
I've stated many times before that my dislike is for the media portrayal of the english team, their fans and their chances, but this extends to the idiots and arrogants out there who believe what the media spout. These tattooed F wits get everyones hackles up and there is always a reaction against arrogance.
As for the Scot/Welsh/Irish support of whoever England are playing, that's really down to long standing rivalry and banter. perhaps more keenly felt by the smaller nations than by England, but to be honest, I enjoy it. For me personally, it's all in good fun. And although you may well support Scotland or Wales etc , there are a large number of your fellow English who would not, as threads on AB in recent weeks have testified. And, on the 2 occasions when Scotalnd qulaified and England didn't, I really don't think there were many English donning Saltires and Scotland strips to cheers us on, were tehre?

sorry ray -misunderstanding...i wasnt refering to your answer...i just meant in general kick always manages to give sensible answers for both sides of the fence...and as i have said before i have nothing against the english at all, my dad is english but SOME people on here feel the scots should support them, all i am saying is why are people surprised that they dont. if italy werent still in the world cup i would have supported england no contest.

Ray babes, agree....the hatred is hard for me to understand too...how can you genealise soooo much that you can hate an entire nation? For example, I think that what the US gvoernment has done to the world is abhorrent, but I don't hate americans, ditto hating any specific race, religion, colour...it's simply beyond me. I think those who "hate" others are inept, cowardly, ignorant people, and fortunately there are very, very few on AB who genuinely fall into that category, even if one or two take the banter a bit far at times. So don't let it worry you. People hate for all sorts of weird and sad reasons...but ultimately it really is their problem :o)
