I presume the desktop is working OK? So your wireless is working.
And your laptop does have wireless networking hardware?
Use Device Manager to make sure you have wireless hardware and it is enabled. Somewhere in Control Panel, or elsewhere in the menus should be a utility for configuring/controlling the wireless card. Start this and make sure your card is receiving a signal. Enter the passcode (if you're using one). Providing all the software is installed right, it should start working.
