IE behaving strangely

For the last 2 weeks I was unable to launch my IE browser, even from its icon in My Programs folder. I tried everything short of re-installing Windows ME on my laptop and nothing worked: I had been accessing the internet via the My Computer link on the desktop and was never able to use any internet links that would normally automatically open another window. Then today, without having done anything different, I became able to launch IE again. Any ideas about what happened and what I should do if it happens again?

I think you might be carrying a virus or Trojan that mucks around with your IE settings often for no purpose other than to cause you grief. As many of my worthy colleagues here have advised before, download Spybot Search & Destroy or Ad-Aware from their respective websites, and scan your system to discover what little nasties are hidden there, then delete them and remember to re-run the scan regularly to keep your machine clean in future.
