Even a ready made timber door and frame can be made to fit in some cases. Timber "plants" can easily be added to the sides of the frame to take up the slack.
More complicated if the opening is shorter than standard. Frames are easily altered. Even the door could be trimmed to fit.
Having a timber door & frame made to measure and fitted, could cost £600-700 for a simple one.
uPVC doors are made to measure. That might well be a cheaper option.
What's the existing opening size, Henry? I might be able to tell you more from that.
