I remember a trip back from the West Country in about 1986 in my R5 Gordini - the wipers failed (broken linkage) somewhere well south of Bristol.

After a bit of head scratching we deployed some string and took turns to drive and yell "Pull" whenever the screen got too wet.

It must have been one of the first 'hands free wiper systems' (at least for the driver) - and I would have been interested to know what law we were breaking ...

Khandro beats me on price....I once bought a beautiful Morris Cambridge for £50 then sold it for £100 for the deposit on my first house..... :-)
There was this Humber....

Mmmmmmm, very big comfy back seats Daisy ;-)
I knew you'd come back with that sort of fan as soon as I pressed submit, GoodG!!!!... :-)
When I was very young, my Dad had a friend with a Humber Super Snipe, which I thought was the best thing I'd ever seen
psssst gness, Austin Cambridge, Morris Oxford same car though really
Happy motoring.
G'night all.
Yeah,.....I knew it was one of those four words, Tony.....it was green I do remember clearly....just the name is fuzzy....but they look and smell the same....

Not as fuzzy as the story about me buying and selling it but that's for another day....... ;-)

Nooo - the Oxford was much better - nice snicky gear stick instead of the hopeless column thing on the Cambridge.

The hand brake was by the driver's door - and worryingly easy to release as you got in/out ...
Night, Tony...me too....have to be up before noon..... ;-)....x
The only one I knew with a Jaguar had the misfortune of imbibing coffee laced with exlax
Bet that made a mess of the leather upholstery.
Both the Cambridge and the Oxford had floor change and column gear change depending on the model. My Cambridge had a 4 speed floor change. The column change was a 3 speed box.
All the models had bench front seats so you could sit 3 people in the front. I often had 6 in the car , me and 5 passengers. No seat belts in those days my car was a 1957 model.
Lots of room in a Cambridge, it was me and my girlfriend in the front and my mate and his girlfriend in the back, amazing what you could get up to !
Our best buy was a Volvo estate bought for DM12000, driven for three years and sold for DM13500! It was when we could buy the 'American Volvo' tax free in Germany, before Volvo closed that loophole, the 'British Volvo' was over DM25000. I sold it to an American who was delighted to have it as they'd stopped the American Volvo loophole too. OH was most impressed when he came home to find it gone.
I trust your OH was expecting to sell it, Zebo.....he didn't just come home one day and find his car gone?... ;-)
