Why do people flush nappies , wet wipes etc down the loo ?

These people that are so lazy that they flush nappies down the toilet ,
presumably because it's easy and quick to dispose out of sight

What would they have done in the days of terry nappies ?

In the days of terry nappies, I used to sluice off solids in the loo then drop the nappy into a bucket of Milton at the side of the pan.

You had to keep a tight grip on the corner of the nappy though.
