So is this place still full of trolls, or is it worth giving time to answer questions from genuine people?

In reply to a comment above not aimed at any specific targets I would also just like to disavow 'vying' for anything in Tech section. I only contribute if a thread has gone unanswered and I think I have something relevant to say or I want to bump a thread so I can learn something. If I say something wrong or unhelpful then by all means address it at me and correct me. Just don't lump me in with the catch-all "some people just [disparaging remark]" because I might think I fit the 'bad advice' category.

Hypognosis:
Don't worry. It's easy to become an 'expert' in AB's Technology section. You simply have to pick the most appropriate looking answer from the following list:
1. Turn it off and turn it on again ;
2 Uninstall it, reboot and reinstall it ;
3. Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware ;
4. Download the manual and actually read it ;
5. Reinstall the driver ;
6. Try a different browser ;
7. Right-click on it and do the bleedin' obvious.
With that list memorised you'll instantly become an 'expert'!

LOL, that does, however, encapsulate a lot of the advice I've seen dished out and the OP says "thanks, that worked".
fwiw, I am guilty of being prejudiced against buying a Win8.x device - it was bad enough that much of my favourite entertainment software wasn't supported by Win7 - not even in compatability mode (demands specific pre-XP-era 32-bit dlls). Can't preach what I practice, therefore.
