I'm here by using AB nal dss, so let's see how far I get this time and Very Many Apologies in advance if I don't get to Thank those ABers who kindly answer. I'm five feet by eleven inches tall and I would like to find a desk with a sloping lid, something along the lines of the old school desks for those who remember them, with storage space beneaththe lid. I wouldn't be standing up of e at he sk, so what chances have I of finding a similar type desk. I know there a iake in this already, but can't risk going back to alter it so I'll say bye for now and see if I can post this. Ta Muchly for any help if this makes any sense!

Hi Woodelf, glad you're able to post, don't fret about the few mistake here or there we can read past those.

I'll have a scout round but furniture is not my strong point.

How much are you prepared to pay? You could possibly find one quite cheaply through online auction sites (or in a traditional auction saleroom).

However a new one will cost you around £150 (inclusive of VAT and with free carriage) here:
http://www.theclassroom.co/square-tables/SLDB750.html
They're made in solid beech, except for the top which is beech-coloured melamine-faced chipboard, and you can choose between a flat top or the sloping one which you've specified. They're also available in different sizes, with the largest having a height of 75cm and being described as 'Age 14 plus' (which, given the size of older secondary pupils, should be big enough for an adult).
Oh, hang on though!!!

I've just tried getting through the initial part of the ordering process on that website and it seems determined not to let me order fewer than 4 desks! (It allowed me to put in just '1' for the quantity but then changed it to '4'). Perhaps there's a minimum order, even though there's nothing specifically stated? It might be best to phone them.

In the meantime, I'll see if I can find anything else suitable.
I've just tried searching for a "teacher's desk" on eBay. Most of what's come up have been large office-type desks with draws but there's also this, for £95, which looks like it might be ideal:
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-teachers-desk-old-style-with-sloping-top-at-the-front-/172827571205
However it's 'collect in person' only from Thame, in Oxfordshire. (I know that you used to be based not far from London but that you were considering moving back up north, so I don't know whether you're still in an area where you could get someone to collect it for you. Note also that the listing ends tomorrow evening).

Far cheaper though, for only £19.99 plus carriage, there's this:

Oops!

My first link, above, seems not to have worked properly. (i.e. it's not 'clickable'). Let's try again:
