Does anyone know how much a new box costs? We have Sky television so I don't imagine we would need a new set up - although I don't know. I’ve looked on the internet and it’s all as clear as mud to me so any advice will be gratefully received.

Sky Q boxes are loaned to customers, free of charge, so there's no actual price for a box, per se. However . . .

As an existing Sky customer, you'll pay an extra £12 per month to get the Sky Q Multiscreen service. However if you want to watch on another television set there's also an 'Additional TV Viewing Fee' to get the device which allows you to do it. That's £99 for each extra telly but if you've not currently got Sky+ Multiscreen you only pay £50 for the first extra telly (and then £99 each for any others).

There's also a set-up fee (because the system has to be fitted by an engineer). For a 1TB box the fee is 'up to £70', for a 2TB box it's 'up to £65'. That's unless you've not got a current Sky+ Multiscreen subscription, in which case the fees are fixed at £25 and £65 respectively.

All of the foregoing assumes that you actually want Sky Multiscreen. If you simply want either a Sky Q 1TB or 2TB box (without the Multiscreen option), you pay a set-up fee of £199.

So that's perfectly clear (possibly as mud?) then!

sky+ box on amazon here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sky-DRX890WL-Set-top-Box-BLACK/dp/B00EX9JQ54
getting a sky q box does need a new set up as it records more TV channels at once so the feed is different. I just ran the exercise and a new 2tb box for me without multiscreen will cost 199 for installation, nothing for the box and no increase to my monthly payment. If I want sky multiscreen its an additional 12 quid a month.
As Woofgang says, it WILL need a new setup.

It has to be setup by a Sky engineer (no self setup).

Also as has been said, you don't own the Sky Q box Sky does (it is loaned to you), so if you see one for sale on eBay or whatever DONT be tempted to buy one as if you connect it up yourself it wont work.
Note that the article in Mazie's link above was written in January 2016 and Sky have changed some of their prices for Sky Q since then (reduced them).

Note with the latest Sky Q box you can record SIX programs at the same time while watching a seventh program !!
As Chris says its £12 extra a month
