Im on my honey moon in a couple of weeks for 2 weeks. we have arranged for our 2 yr old cat to be placed in a cattery whilst we are away. The cattery has been rceommneded by a friend.

I am now worried that she might get lonely or even ignore or forget about us when we get back. Sound really sad, bit it is quite worrying me!

congratulations on your wedding.

I worried about all that stuff when I first put my late little monster in the cattery. He was a very timid cat with a fiesty temper. But he seemed to enjoy the experience and didn't ignore me at all when he got home - although he was pleased to see me, but I think that was because he wanted to be fed.

The first time he went in I even phoned the cattery a few times to check up on him! Now that is sad!!
If shes anything like my scruffbag mog she will ignore you, glare at you and generally make you feel like the most evil person on the planet for anything from 24 hours to a week but she will get over it. Cats seem to have an amazing ability to make you feel really really guilty but once they realise that you are the source of food and a comfy bed and head rubs they suddenly forget what they were annoyed about and go back to their usual selfs. Im sure if the cattery was recommended to you it will be absolutely fine and youll have nothing to worry about. Congrats on the wedding and have a wonderful honeymoon.
Yes, I bet she will ignore you. She will be sulking for days. Stroppy things, cats.
Cats are like people, they sulk, but then they come around.

Your cat may really enjoy the change, and be a bit miffed to come home, or may miss you and be delighted to see you, but which ever it is, she will soon settle into her old routine.

The notion that cats glare at you, or sulk is really a bit of anthropomorphication - cat owners are more suseptible to this than most people.

Don't worry - enjoy your honeymoon, and don;t let your cat rule your life. You (and your new husband) are head of the pack, she will learn her place - but if you let her behave like Pack Queen, she will!

andy_hughes you wouldn't say cats glaring is totally us anthropomorphising(sp?) them if you met Sam - when I did his flea treatment last week he spent 24 hours sitting in the corner of whichever room I was in and he was definitely glaring!!! There was calculation in it as well!
Hi spaced,

have a wonderful wedding......

of course she will sulk when you get back... but inwardly she will be so very pleased to see you too!!.. i went away once.. leaving my cats being cared for in their own home..with my mum,,, and one of them sat facing a wall for a week when i got back!!.. he used to keep looking round to see if i was watching!!!.. the joys of cat ownership!!!.. don't let it spoil your day/honeymoon.. when you get back give her some of her fave treats

xxx
I have just read all the answers to this question. It is amazing that we all have horror stories about how our cats treat us and about them attacking up (for the enjoyment of seeing us suffer). Yet we love them so much.

fat rascal's answer had me laughing - my monster used to see if I was looking before he goughed chunks out of my woodwork. If I was busy doing something he would 'yowl' until I looked at him, and then he stretched up and ran his claws down the wood. Many a time I wanted to strangle him.

Have a fantastic honeymoon! Your cat may well ignore you for a while after you bring her home but she will come round in her own time. Our three mogs always sulk for a few days but as they are eating ok and seem to be enjoying getting back to their usual routines, we try not to take it personally! The cattery where they go for their hols is great and we feel happy (ish!) leaving them there. Good luck and try not to worry too much! xx
Absence will probably make the heart grow fonder. My cats are always more affectionate when they come bcak from a stay in the cattery.
