Paint For Radiators
6 Answers
My bathroom and cloakroom radiators are both showing signs of rust along the bottom edge caused through from water drips as the towels are just above them. I have had 2 different pieces of advice as to what paint to use. Metal radiator paint or gloss paint. More points of view please.

I can't remember the brand, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of decent ones out there.
Preparation is the key and put plenty of newspaper behind the radiator, so when you're spraying the edge, it goes on the newspaper and not all over your wallpaper .... unless you're redecorating, in which case it won't really matter.
Just a quick light spray, then give it a little time to dry, then reapply - don't over-spray.
I can't remember exactly how many (maybe 4 or 5??), but I know I gave my radiators quite a few thin coats - much better than 1 or 2 thick coats.

Have painted ours in the last two years. Removed them from the wall - washed the sludge out of them - benched it - rubbed them down with steel wool - primed with rust preventer where needed and Spray painted them with radiator enamel - wouldn't go near Hammerite - fliipin awful stuff it was. Magi cote was the one I used.
Used at least a can per radiator and applied several coats.
