Judge's C V ?
8 Answers
Since I've seen NJ posting recently ...
... can he (or anyone else for that matter) refer me to a site where I might find the education/qualifications/background of any given Judge?
It seems to me that this information should be in the public domain - I think it highly relevant when considering the possible reasons for some of the more (ahem) 'interesting' verdicts and sentencing that we see from time to time?
I'm quite good (I think) with Mr Google and his friends - but I could not find a peep of info beyond the chambers and date of taking silk of the judge in a recently discussed case. Is this deliberately withheld from public scrutiny - if so why? Possibly for security reasons?
Thanks

This list is not exhaustive, and you would probably have to google your chosen judge, if he/she is not on this list. But it's a start.

did a longish answer and it turned into a free offer of a telephone
No I am not sure if they are in the public domain
and being personal info you have no chance of getting hold of them
All the ones in my year - Peregrine Simon, Bean, Wright, and lesser souls - Geake, Gore - their CVs are nowhere to be seen ( "PP's constant encouraging was a significant factor in my clawing and biting my way...." just not there)
Lord Simon is unlikely to boast for example that he took a IIIrd in his islamic law paper - is he ?
[ altho Jack Straw did admit that he had never undertaken any international law]
I mean it is a damned good deal- they get pensions under the Judges Pensions' Act ( an act all to themselves) which is not exactly contributory and even the part timeers get one

Thanks PP & jno - I don't actually want to know anything that detailed about these 'public servants' - but, given that these are public appointments attracting a sizeable remuneration package, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to know where they got their education and/or legal training and what posts they have previously filled?
