^^ Especially since all the news site are, perfectly understandably, concentrating on Las Vegas and Catalonia at the moment.
> If you relied on the BBC to post on some things, you'd be waiting a long time.

I think you could rely on the BBC to post news of Tom Petty's death ... if he had died.
Ellipsis
When I looked, he was still alive in the sidebar.

Saw him live in the early 1980s on the strength of his 'Refugee' single which I really liked. Don't really remember the concert, but bought some Traveling Wilburys after that, but haven't played them in years.
Still, a good egg, and let's hope rumours of his death have been exaggerated.
he seems to have recovered in the Guardian, though the old URL lingers on

I only heard this on the news this morning and genuinely felt a twinge. Have always had a thing for Tom Petty, also saw him live at Hammersmith Odeon years ago. Sad news.
I saw him in the 80s - one of the best concerts I ever went to. So sad.
Second headline on the BBC homepage after the Vegas shootings ...

Also a good obituary already:

RIP Tom.
Programme change for tonight - BBC4 10.30 pm.

A sad loss indeed - RIP Tom.
