Would some christian please explain the meaning of these 2 verses of Matthew chapter 10.
I gather these are the words of Jesus Christ. A man of peace ?
"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. "
Well, it's not advocating holy war. Read the whole chapter. Jesus is sending his disciples throughout Judaea to preach the imminence of the kingdom of heaven. This message will be divisive - accepted by some, but rejected by many.
He warns his disciples to expect persecution and opposition, even from their own family members.
You'll find plenty of biblical exegesis on line, Atalanta.
Luke 14:26 “If any man come to Me and hate not his father and mother, and wife and children, and brethren and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
Jesus comes across as something of a cult leader....
Jesus said the whole world is deceived and lies under the sway of the wicked one.
So when someone comes along and announces truth that exposes that deception, its bound to ruffle a few feathers particularly at family level.
//Jesus said the whole world is deceived and lies under the sway of the wicked one//
Judging by the ''family values'' that the bible teaches, its hard to see who the 'wicked one' actually is.
