Yes it is but the orders have dropped so there isn't the work anylonger I believe.
On such a scale as well.

But all these big space and engine type businesses actually often work sort of hand to mouth.

My brother works for a sat alive company. Airbus I think? Not sure. but he is always saying the teams work for specific projects and don't know from one project to the next if they will have a job.

Seems to be transpiring most will be voluntary so perhaps not quite such dreadful news for some.

However the loss of skills is not good.
Yes dreadful news for those involved but with defence cuts that many clamour for what else can you expect. The MOD don't design and make their own equipment.
2000 distributed across the country isn't that bad. Many will go through natural wastage, retirement or resignation. Voluntary redundancy will be a treat for others, enforced redundancy will only affect a small number.

As Prudie has said if the orders aren't there, they're not there. Perhaps BAEs Business Development team need to get their finger out and look further afield for business opportunities?
I suppose this will happen if you put all your eggs in one barsket.
