My Husband Had Eczema On His Hands And Arms A Week Or So Ago....

caused through stress I think,,, our daughters health and spreading his mums ashes last thursday.
The ezcema has gone but on friday his elbow suddenly got very hot and tender. bright red and swollen down his arm in an oval shape... He is feeling like he has flu coming.... hot..slight temp.. and generally unwell, which is really unsual for him.
Anyway got him to go to the doctors today....not the one I have any faith in I am afraid.. She didnt know what it was... said it could be an infection ?????? dah !! given him antibiotics and said go back if no better. I did wonder if it is bursitis... just wondered if anyone else would know or had it themselves.?

Not a medical professional but sounded like an infection to me, infections can affect your whole body ie raising the temp etc, could he have scratched the eczema and got muck in it?

Two things come to mind, bearing in mind that your description of the elbow is slightly ambiguous........a bursitis, which you have mentioned, but one must exclude....GOUT.

A blood test would identify and or exclude both conditions.

Thankyou for your replies. No signs of an infected spot or break in the skin.
.. just very swollen and miss shapened elbow and arm..
As I said this doctor he saw always has the same answer, she doesnt know what it is...just take the tablets and come back if no better.!
sqad it does look very much like gout... with the redness and swelling. He says it feels like the skin is tight.? ..
