If you are going it alone then buy a book which will show you suggested menu plans such as Low GI and an exercise book. The best way is to eat sensibly and exercise and you should aim for a loss of about 1 pound a week. Slow and steady loss is less likely to pile back on than if you try a faddy diet offering a stone or two in a week. Remember you are not just changing your eating and exercise habits to achieve you goal weight but to gain a new an healthier way of life permanently. Good Luck.
Cut out all unhealthy foods such as chips, biscuits, cakes, crisps, sweets, sugar desserts but do allow yourself a couple of squares of dark chocolate as a treat.
Reduce fried foods to a minimum.
Boost your vegetable and fruit intake.
Drink water, or tea.
Do exercise; fast walking is very good or jogging if you like that. It's important to make up muscle, as muscle uses calories all the time even when you're asleep!
Most important, after the prom stick to this new healthy way of living.
By July you could easily lose a stone.

I'm currently on the slimfast and its really good. the smoothies and bars are really tasty and keep you full which is always helpful! Check out their website for more info... only been doing it 10 days and lost 1.5kg which isnt much but as they say... the quicker it comes off, the quicker it will go back on!
terambulan - I've tried this sort of thing before and although I felt much better with more energy, I didn't shift any weight. I thought perhaps my body was so used to me eating loads of crap for years that it decided I was starving and began to store fat.
I take it you have to pack regular exercise in there as well, but not so much that you build muscle and turn into a beefcake?!
