no sooner i smell "night scented stock" it takes me back nearly 30 years..
its got an almost unique scent to it and as the name suggests, gives off its best smell in the cool of night..
takes me back to the times i used to get home from wherever ide been and would just sit and chat with friends. spent many a happy hour just chilling and enjoying life....
for those who dont know, its a small summer flower...
anyone else got a particular "something" that remindes them of a time long ago ?

walking into an olde worlde sweet shop that first smell you smell as you go in reminds my of infant school, when i used to in before school to get me 3d worth of sherbet, the powder sort that used to stain our fingers and it looked like you had been smoking, i felt so grown up,but no worries not like nowadays but thats another story.thanks for the memories
I love the perfume of night scented stocks. But I had to give up growing them after I planted over a hundred plants out in the borders one year. Returned home from work that evening to discover that my dear old tortoise had spent the day ambling round the flower beds and eaten every single one of them right down to the stump.
So if I can't settle for that nostalgic smell, I'll settle for the scent of an applewood bonfire on an autumn evening.
When I was a child, my parents grew an enormous patch of Lilly of the Valley which also had a special evocative fragrance when they flowered every spring. And another favourite smell I'd have nominate is Yardleys Lavender Water which my mother would always sprinkle on my pillow when I was feeling unwell as a small child.
