Just Had An Email From Amazon

SayingnI have signed up to Amazon Prime and a charge of g179 has been deducted from my account.

I have not set up Amazon Prime.

How do I make sure I am not charged for this obvious scam?

that happened to me Cassa - please inform Amazon - they will pay you back (well they did for me) - keep an eye on your account as they may take £7.99 from your account every month.

Thanks Jennyjoan. How do I contact Amazon about this? I have looked on the web site and put it in their search for spam and cons etc but come up with nothing.
presumably the email's not from Amazon, in which case ignore it.

But if it is, do as jennyjoan suggests.
It's not exactly spam or a scam. Some items, especially those guaranteeing next day delivery, are marked Amazon Prime. If you select such an item you are presumed to have subscribed to the Prime terms.
Open Amazon and click on help. it's in the middle of the page below the search box, follow the help instructions re receiving an Amazon email. Hope that helps.
Simply selecting 'Free next day delivery' on an Amazon order is enough to get you signed up to Amazon Prime if you fail to read the small print. Hundreds of thousands of people have been caught out that way.

Nominet (which provides the central registry for .co.uk domain names) doesn't recognise hermesparcelmanager.co.uk as a valid domain.
^^^ CORRECTION!!!

It was just a blip with the Nominet website. (It wouldn't recognise that theanswerbank.co.uk was a valid name either for a while).

It IS a valid domain name and it IS owned by Hermes Europe GmbH, so the email probably IS genuine:

Can't sleep - I am wondering who pays the money back in to Cassa's account.
The email probably was genuine as cassa says her bank account has been debited by the stated amount.
It is not a scam as such as you will have clicked on a box to agree to it, probably by accepting next day delivery and not reading what it said in brackets after, but companies like Amazon 9and Trainline who do something similar) rely on many people just clicking without reading in order to complete the purchase.
easily done at the page before checkout..all in very small print...
On re-reading it maybe you haven't been charged- maybe you meant that the email says you have. So it could be a scam email. The easiest way is to log on to your amazon account and see if you are subscribed. I am not sure what you mean by g179- if it's not £7.99 a month then it won't be genuine.

If you did subscribe inadvertently Amazon do usually refund if you point it out quickly. Martin Lewis's site covers how to demand a refund- see Buenchico's link

I checked my account and it says I am currently don't have a prime account.

The email said g179.00 had been deleted from my account. I don't know what the g stands for though. The g has a little wiggle at the bottom.
Scam email then. Just forward it to:

It's mor phishing i think than scam- there may be a link taking you to a fake site. Don't click on anything- just send to amazon
