I am buying a new house. I have a friend that wishes to buy my old house. How do i go about selling it without the use of an agent?

go to any really good bookshop and get a book on conveyancing. This should give you all the info you need. I'm sorry I can't help more.

Also, Smiths might do some proformers which may be useful like they do the 'write your own will' stuff etc etc, they might do a home conveyancing pack. Not sure though, just a thought.

you will still need a solicitor just put yours in touch with theirs and they will do the rest.

You don't need to go through an Estate agent, just agree a selling price with your friend,then contact your solicitor,and your friend contacts the solicitor they will use, easy, Good luck

Some of the above replies seem to confuse the role of the solicitor and the role of the sales agent. The biggest proportion of the professional fees incurred during house sale go to the sales agent and as Ray says, it is not necessary to use one - just tell your solicitor who the buyer is and who their solicitor is. It used to be possible to do your own legal conveyancing and DIY plans were sold to help one do this. It may be still possible to do this but solicitors have cut the fees they make on house conveyancing so much that it isn't really worth it.

good luck gilby,and you have saved quite a bit of money by not using an Estate agent, Ray
