I got bitten by one of my mother's dogs once. He was a tempermental git. The other dog, who adored me more than my parents, nearly killed him for it

I picked the naughty dog up by the scruff of the neck and locked him in the kennel outside.

I neither feared nor resented him after that time and it certainly didn't change my love of dogs.
