During the referendum politicking we hear a lot about how the EU prevents wars. So where are they now when they are really needed to sort out the Spanish mess?

This could get out of hand well fast and will be detrimental to a lot of countries. The EU, headed by Junker, should be leading and at least aiding getting this sorted.

Perhaps Junker is still looking for the answer at the bottom of a bottle?

We may have thought better of the EU & had a different outcome if they had stepped in to stop the break up of the United Kingdom when the Scots committed treason to the Crown & broke away from the UK.
YMB...somebody needs to step in before it too late. This can and will, I am sure, soon get completely out of hand.
But. That’s. Not. What. They. Do.
I don’t think it will Mikey. I’m pretty sure the violence would be prevelant now if it were to happen. The Catalan Govt and associated police force have been nullified. Unless you think they’ve gone underground and are forming a junta.
// PP, tablet time me old china./

hahahaha you so funny ! yeah dat !

are we still sayuing it is a function of the EU to interfer in domestic state affairs and it has always been thus? - oh dear dear
Zacs...the difficulty here is that we are talking about Latin temperaments.

As far as I can remember, this issue with Catalonia has been on a simmer-setting for many years. Both sides appear to be very pig-headed and will not now back down, without some help and encouragement.

Madrid have shown complete insensitivity by using violence against voters the other weekend, and the Catalans seem hell bent on a head-to-head confrontation, come what will.

The judgement of Solomon is needed here.
I’m well aware of all that Mikey. Why hasn’t The cessation of the Catalan Govt and the sudjugation of the associated police force instigated violent clashes from the get go?
// The Catalan Govt and associated police force have been nullified. //

no they havent ! - ( swallows another AB-has-gone-crazy tablet) and takes a deep breath

The Catalan govt has been dismissed and there is nothing in its place yet ( but it is a Saturday and do govts erm function over the wek end?) and the chief of police has been dismissed - the rest of the policia are in place. They as part of their employment contract are obliged to follow the orders of their lawfully appointed seniors who are also still in place

so for YMF who clearly cant understand three words strung together today - nullity no. ( 2 words see ?)

what is not clear is whether the lawfully appointed personnel will obey the law and carry on
or make for the door
or say that they will do the independence thing when it is clearly against their contract and the law which they have previously sworn to uphold

The Barcelona correspondent said on the Beeb this morning;
the politicians on both sides havent been doing what they are paid to do and that is talk !

(oo and can I add a typical sidesplitting YMF one liner comment? "wot dat den ?")
// We may have thought better of the EU .....if they had stepped in to stop the break up of the UK when the Scots committed treason ... & broke away from the UK.//

O god more craziness on AB - the EU cant step in and the Scots didnt commit treason - but other than that not much wrong with the remark

In what way do you consider a declaration of independence/secession works Zacs ?
err, Whiskery, when did the Scots commit treason?

Can't see the EU interfering or intervening in a sovereign country.
Passions will be running high and I really can't see this ending well.

Madrid has no choice but to act by the constitution.
PP, The police force are now in the control of Madrid. They are no longer the Catalonian police force ie they have been nullified from their part in Acting as the controlling force of the Catalan Govt.
Cough up that pill.
OG, watch the news. It’s happening before your very eyes.
