I have just had a patio laid in my back garden and wish to turf the rest of it. Is there a good time for laying turf and if so, is this it, or is it too hot at the moment.

Any advice on how to lay turf and look after new turf would also be appreciated.

Thanks.

Bad time of year really unless you can heavily water it every night with a sprinkler for several weeks.

Turf should be laid "brick style" so you never get two straight edges together.
Good advice so far... but wait until early to mid fall for cooler weather, since, as hammerman states, it's going to take a lot of water...
If you can bear to be patient and look out on bare earth for a little while longer, I would. The middle of summer is not a good time to lay turf, especially if you are in a hosepipe ban area as it really needs to be regularly watered in to stop the roots drying out and the grass turning brown. You could find that if you go away on holiday for a fortnight fairly soon, you might return to a completely brown dead lawn which would be a completely waste of your time and money.
