CIFAS Entrys on Credit Record
9 Answers
I am having serious problems getting credit, so ordered my reports and found a number of CIFAS entries on it.
After careful investigation, I have found out that this is because apparently an incorrect address had been given on some credit applications.
What happened was I lived at Address1 for about 20 years, I then moved temporarily to Address2 for about 2 years and then moved back to Address1.
When applying for the credit, I just said I lived at Address1 as thought it qwould be easier, but didn;t realise the Electoral roll was linked, etc.!
So apparently I have been trying to apply with the incorrect address!
My problem is, i never did any of this intentionally and I had theoretically been at address1 (my parents) all the time. It was just my electoral roll.
How can I get this off my credit record as a) I cannot wait 6 years for it to clear and b) I wasn;t trying to fraud anyone!
Thanks in Advance

As much as you want to say that you are innocent, I am afraid that you have commited fraud by not giving correct addresses.
The NOC is the only thing I can suggest

Thank you for my reply.
Yes I do class myself as being innocent as I was not trying to commit fraud.
My question is here, what if I knew your basic details and tried to apply for a card in your name but gave the wrong address details? This would inevitably cause a CIFAS entry to be put on your credit records. Now if i didn't like you, i could happily go around applying for credit and screw your credit record up.
I need to challenge these but not sure how yet. Does anyone know the whole process and what has to be done for a bank to put a CIFAS entry on? I am thinking I might ask the bank to prove it was me making the application for a start off. Any ideas?

Just a word on this.... ALL CREDIT ORGANISATIONS - governed (regulated) by the FSA have a material facts disclosure - WHICH STATES - all info provided should be legitimate and accurate and may be subject to a credit audit if the credit is not pre-approved. MOST banks if not all are required to do credit audits on their customers and staff and also they are required to complete an credit application consent to proceed form. More than likely - if your bank holds these records on file (which most do for external audits) they can prove that the app was made by you - alternatively they can just turn around and ask you to prove that you have NOT made those applications.!!! - Sorry for being so blunt - there was no otherway I could soften it!!!
You have - you say entirely innocently - given incorrect address details. You are now thinking of trying to get out of the consequences by making false implications (i.e. that it was not you who made those applications). No -don't do it. It doesn't look good just reading it, does it? You could easily be caught out and have a much worse problem than you have now.
themas, I was giving address details as I thought they were correct but in fact i had registered my electoral status somewhere else. I admit, that looking back I have given the wrong details, corectly or incorrectly, innocently or not, but the fact of the matter is that the process i think is flawed in that i could of been anyone applying.
My point was that the CIFAS entries are there to identify fraud and if i wasn't trying to fraud then surely these entries are illegal and incorrect. I think after reading they would have to prove that I was trying to fraudently apply.

ps thank you for all your replies, they are much appreciated... do you know if these types of entries will affect me applying for credit in the future. I have recently taking legal action against a number of banks to remove adverse credit info from my records (not CIFAS entries) due to unfair and illegal bank charges and they have taken them off so my credit record is at nearly totally clean, bar these CIFAS entries. I understand that a lender cannot decline an application simply because iof entries and they should check with CIFAS, but realisitcally do they take these entries and look badly at them?
I've known a case where someone applied for a basic bank account (which does not involve getting credit). However, the bank did a credit check and rejected the application. It was later found that there was a CIFAS entry on CRA records & this seems likely to have been the reason for the rejection although it was never proved.
In this case the CIFAS entry was queried with the lender that entered it and they agreed to remove it because they had no proof of its accuracy. You could try approaching the lenders who have put your CIFAS entries on, explaining to them what happened and asking them to agree to remove the entries. However, I'm not sure you'll succeed, and doing a NOC as well is a good idea.
