i used to love going there at christmas as a child. Happy days.
Yes...I too loved it there as a kid. I remember going when I was about 7 ( 1960 ) and seeing a marvellous model railway layout.

By the way, does any remember Gamages, at High Holborn ? Wonderful old-style Dept Store, which was said to have a better stock of toys than Hamleys.
Doing some research, I now realise that they wonderful model railway layout was probably Gamages, rather than Hamleys ::::

Eleena...it was wonderful and very profitable, which makes it both sad and strange that it closed down in 1972. We lived in the 50's and early 60's in North London and made regular trips on the Metropolitan down to Baker Street. We weren't very wealthy, but Gamages was affordable I guess. I remember having a proper Afternoon Tea in Lyons Corner House before we came home !
