What is a Bot

I have started playing an on line game.

I am constantly being told about Bots. I have looked them up and understand that thet are some kind of remote device.

How do you use them? and how do you put them in the game?

Bots - they are scripts that run to moderate rooms. Usually provided by the server or moderator. They have the ability to monitor what is being said - look out for key words etc and can have the ability to warn or disconnect you (boot you off) if you use foul language etc. But that depends on the actual script that has been written into it.

a 'bot' is a computer controlled player in the game(like in single player mode).if you play an online game with say one or two real people you can spice it up by introducing bots to add more players.

as to how to introduce them.......it all depends on the game

Mattk is correct, a bot is a computer controlled opponent that will simulate a human player, good to practice against, but do not behave the same as real players.

On online servers they make up the numbers, until enough human players join.

They generally have adjustable skill levels, from cannon fodder to what the hell just shot me.

Just for confirmation, a 'bot' short for robot. It's a computer controlled entity in a game or, in Fern's example, a chat room. They are programmed to respond to certain circumstances, that is all. Some may have some AI, especially for game bots.

Stevee - if you don't know what a bot IS it's highly unlikely you could build one!
