As the title says, I am looking to buy a food mixer, and the market has lots. Which would you recommend and do you use one regularly? I am not one for gadgets and if I get a food mixer the bread maker OH loved when we got it, will become redundant ! I will be using it for dough, batter, pastries all the usual mixing. Are they worth the money I guess is what I am asking !

Kenwood Chef have always had a good name and big enough to deal with dough mixers but they are pricey unless you can get one in a sale. I would think there will be other makes that are just as good but for less money. If you are doing dough you will want one with a decent sized motor not one of the smaller mixers.
Kenwood or Kitchen Aid would be my target.
Hi Islander, I can highly recommend this machine. It will cover all you have mentioned. I bought it after reading up on the reviews. It's really easy to clean and comes packed with lots of different extras ( read the product description underneath) .. http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_325003920480_-1
^^ Shop around for best price .
This site really does need a greater number of contributors. I'm sure that the advice above is sound, but I can recall a time when one could've expected a couple of pages of posts discussing merits of different makes/models.
I bought an excellent one in Lidl recently. It has all the gadgets you require, is easy to use and easy to clean. The big bonus being it's very cheap!

Thank you all. Maybe I will leave out the dough ( use the breadmaker) and go for a smaller mixer. Thanks again.
I would still look for one with a decent motor. Many years ago (43 to be precise) I received the Kenwood Cheffette as a present. It has given good service but has not been overly used in fact not at all in the last 5 years but the motor now smells when mixing fruit cake as it is quite a heavy mixture and the cheffette's motor just isn't really big enough to cope. Shop around.
